It’s Earth day and the EPA Lead goes into effect

This is it!
Linked to this posting is Newsday’s report on the new lead rule.
The fact of the mater is the people who don’t care, and the fly-by-nighters stand to do well, until they’re caught.
It well cost me and my clients extra to comply. Anyone who want to skirt the issue will out bid me on jobs.
Maybe I can get a Job with the EPA, cause I don’t know if doing home improvements will work out now. I guess we’ll see

Here’s an update on the new EPA RRP Lead law. I got a Mailer from Hofstra University. They are offering the course starting March 26th; however the law takes effect on the 22, but better late than never I guess! They’re charging less than what I paid for the course and its easier to get to. Plus the area is a bit nicer (over in Bed-sty we were told for lunch not to stray too far! You needed to get buzzed in to the building, besides one fast food joint was a pizza place that didn’t sell pizza, and don’t get me started about the parking. )
Still not too many people know about what’s going on with this whole lead thing. I was talking to a cabinet sales woman in the Home Depot the other day. Her Hubby works for a big improvement outfit running a crew. Work is slow and he’s doing the handyman thing to put cash in the pocket and they haven’t heard anything about this. Why isn’t anybody banging the gong about this?

A phone call, a couple in the store with a question, stopping by a house or 2 to give a estimate; can this be signs of spring?
It’s been a long and cold winter. Again, like the winter before, when the phone rung, it was with a fellow contractor looking for work. It is refreshing to have a possible paying person on the other end for a change! How’s other are doing? I see the worry look on the faces on other guys admitting that it’s been slow. How’s it going for you? Drop a commit, you need not be a contractor. May the venting begin…

It’s raining again!

It’s raining again, and the ground just isn’t soaking it up. Puddles started forming on the grass early, and the forecast is for the rain to keep getting heaver. This morning, I heard the pump I installed in the window well cycle. This a good thing ’cause it keeps my basement dry. Nevertheless, with all the snow and rain my below grade rat slab under the family room had become a pool. During the last batch of heavy rain, I bought another pump and hose to keep the water out of the boiler room. I may have to install the same pump setup as in the window well. I’ll share the set up with any one interested.

Yes, I have No Class!

Today I was supposed start teaching the spring adult evening session In the high school. No one signed up! I was told not to feel bad, lots of classes had little or no enrollment. I guess people need to spend there money on other stuff like food and bills. We’ll try again in the Fall, maybe I’ll introduce a class on making your home weather tight as well.

I’ve been bad! Not posting for almost a YEAR!
I’m so far behind, I’m just now committing to a New Year’s Resolution!
Here goes it: Be a better bloger, and get more work.

We’re talking Big $ finds and time in the slammer!!
I’m certified as of Monday, and it looks like we’re in for a real pain in the butt with this.
As I see it, this is just the tip of a big iceberg.

Wow, Where does the time go?

I got done with Jury Duty on Friday! In and Out within a few hours. The judge just didn’t need our group. But just a few people who were before me disappeared into the halls of justice. We wish them well.

I don’t mind doing my civic duty, but why do the cops at the door make you feel like the criminal?

Anyway, I got the handouts ready for Wednesday’s class. More about this later
